  UUFCC Diversity Committee

We affirm the worth and dignity of all people    

UUFCC is a Welcoming Congregation.

 The DIVERSITY COMMITTEE meets on the third Sunday in each month at 12:15.

Our Mission
A. To educate and challenge ourselves, the UUFCC and the community to become more inclusive;
B. to communicate and relate with each other in more respectful ways

 We envision: 
A.  conscious, honest and respectful relationships among all people; 
B.  individuals and institutions that are transformed into more inclusive entities

Activities

  •  The documentary, Slave Reparations:The Final Passage will be shown at Wonderful-Soulful-Wednesday on June 13.  This documentary was developed by the UU Congregation of the Palisades and funded by the Fund for UU Responsibility. In this program, aimed at promoting educated discussions on this controversial issue, leading reparations proponents discuss the legacy of slavery and address the most often voiced objections to the current request for reparations. This video will be followed by discussion.
  • Three workshops are being planned for Fall, 2007 on Wonderful-Soulful-Wednesdays.  The workshop leader is Christian Mastheis, Assistant Director of the LGBT Student Resource Center at PSU
  •      September 12th, 2007 - Sexual and Affectional Orientation
  •      November 14th, 2007 - Transgender 101
  •      April 9th, 2008 - Polyamory/Relationship Diversity
  • Dr. Marty Nathan, a former UUFCC member whose first husband was killed in Greensboro, NC, while working for civil rights, will be with us the weekend of January 13.
  • UUFCC has been selected as a field test site for Building the World We Dream About, a new curriculum on diversity from the UUA.    Beginning this September, workshop sessions will be on Saturday mornings (dates below) from 10-12 at the Fellowship.  Four UUFCC members are being trained as facilitators:  Marian Dornell, Steve Merino, Suzanne Weinstein, Jean Wiant. The sessions will cover:

      1. Telling Our Story: Multiple Truths and Multiple Realities

      2. You Are How You’ve Lived: Exploring Individual and Group Identity

      3. Problems and Promises of Unearned Privilege

      4. Discerning Race/Discerning Power

      5. Ignore-ance of White Identity

      6. White Identity From Other’s Point-of-View

      7. Building Bridges: Hot Topics, Lessons Learned, Worship

      8. Developing Cross-Racial and Multi-Cultural Competencies

      9. Voices From the Local Community – Listening and Learning

      10. Exploring Our Communities

      11. Building the World We Dream About – Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism as Spiritual and Justice Work

      12. The First Day of Our New World – Finalizing Steps and Celebrating in Worship
