UUFCC Concert Series 2009/2010 (All Winterfest concerts are $10 admission, with students and children admitted free)
September 20 (Sunday) at 3 PM The Caravel Quartet (formerly Quartet T) from New York will perform works by Janacek, Scodanibbio, and Beethoven. The members of the quartet are violinists Kristi Helberg and Amie Weiss (formerly from State College), violist Miranda Sielaff, and cellist Jane Cords O'Hara. All of them are professionl musicians in New York and perform there in a variety of ensembles. October 18 (Sunday) at 3 PM Violinist Clara Lyon returns to State College to present a recital that will include music by Brahms, Sarasate, Strauss, and Ysaye. Clara studied violin in State College with her father, James Lyon. Since leaving State College, she has earned degrees at The Juilliard School and SUNY at Stony Brook, where she continues her studies. Her accompanist will be Nana Shi, who is also a graduate student at SUNY Stony Brook. Clara has appeared in Winterfest concerts with the Lyon Family Ensemble and also presented a solo recital. November 22 (Sunday) at 3 PM Former UUFCC Music Director Amanda Silliker returns to present a recital for us. She will be accompanied by pianist Svetlana Rodionova. February 7 , 2010 (Sunday) at 3 PM The Concordia Singers of the Nittany Valley Childrens' Choir will perform for us. This is a group of about 30 young people between the ages of 11 and 18 who audition for this select group, which is directed by Lou Ann Shafer February 21, 2010 (Sunday) at 3 PM Pianist Svetlana Rodionova will present a recital, assisted by her husband, French hornist, Matt Patton. November 14 (Saturday) at 8 PM Amy Speace Admission: $15 Amy has been known and highly respected for years as a superb songwriter and
performer. But, she has begun to get more large scale attention since being
"discovered" by Folk music legend Judy Collins. Judy calls Amy Speace her
protege. She has recorded Amy's song "The Weight Of The World" on her latest
album and has performed it at the Newport Folk Festival. Amy records for
Wildflower Records--the label founded by Judy Collins--and they frequently
perform together. Recently, the title track of Amy's new album, The Killer In
Me, was picked as the NPR song of the day. Her style falls into the broad
category known as Americana. It is a blend of folk, country, and rock and roll.
Her performance for us will be solo acoustic--just Amy and her guitar.
February 13 (Saturday) at 8 PM Paul Curreri Admission: $15 The Music Committee is pleased to present a solo acoustic concert by internationally acclaimed songwriter, guitarist, and spirited live performer Paul Curreri on Saturday, February 13, 8:00 pm at the Fellowship. Paul Curreri, who hails from Charlottesville, Virginia, splits his time between the US and the UK. Here is some of what’s been said about Paul: “Exquisite… brings a renewed eloquence to the medium.”– The New Yorker; “My favorite living musician. If I weren't me, I'd want to be him.”– Kelly Joe Phelps, Rykodisc Recording Artist; “Original imagery… dynamic finger-style guitar work.”– Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Paul will be playing songs from his five previous CDs as well as ones from his brand new CD, California. Tickets are $15 and available in advance from Fred Volz, from Susan at the Fellowship office, at Webster’s Bookstore Café, and at the door on the evening of the performance. As always, proceeds from this concert will benefit music programming at the Fellowship. So, not only is this a chance for you to take in a fantastic performance by a wonderful artist, it’s your opportunity to show support for music at the Fellowship.
