Untangled Strings Concerts

March 27  (Thursday)  at 8 PM

The UUFCCs Untangled Strings concert series will present two great bands in one evening--the WIYOS and the Hunger Mountain Boys--with proceeds to benefit music programming at the UUFCC.

THE WIYOS play and compose Old-Timey American music inspired by the idioms of the 1920s and '30s. Their music comes from a time before commercial formatting separated blues from country, ragtime from gospel, and swing from hillbilly. With an instrumentation of washboard/harmonica/kazoo, resonator guitar/banjo, upright bass and three harmony vocals, THE WIYOS' live performance transports audiences back to an era before TV and mass-media were the main sources of entertainment.

The Hunger Mountain Boys' songwriting and music has won them national recognition and taken them around the world. Their spirited performances of traditional American music has put them on stages with artists from Taj Mahal to Doc Watson and Ralph Stanley to Kathy Mattea. Their sound is so authentic, if you added a few pops and clicks you'd swear you were listening to an old 78 from the 1930s.

Tickets for the WIYOS and the Hunger Mountain Boys are available from Fred Volz, at the UUFCC office, or from Webster's Bookstore Cafe in State College.

Tickets are $20 each.
