SUMMARY:10\,000 Villages Sale @ UUFCC
DESCRIPTION:Ten Thousand Villages is planning a three-day holiday sale at the Unitarian Fellowship on November 21\, 22\, and 23. We plan to have a wide variety of artisan goods\, coffee\, chocolate\, tea\, and heirloom quality rugs from Bunyaad. \nWe’re more than a store\, We’re a global maker-to-market movement that addresses economic injustice. SUMMARY:Community Event - "Cooked\, Survival by Zip Code"
DESCRIPTION:Cooked\, Survival by Zip Code was produced by an award winning filmmaker named Judith Hefand.  It will be shown July 11th\, 7pm in the Foxdale Auditorium. The film is being co-sponsored by the Climate Justice Group of State College Friends Meeting\, and Foxdale’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion and Climate Care Committees.  State College community attendance is welcomed. \n\nCooked\, Survival by Zip Code documents various weather disasters but focuses on the 1995 Chicago heat disaster that killed 739 people. Most of those people were elderly\, impoverished and many were black. This film links extreme weather events with extreme disparity …  people without the means to escape or recover invariably suffer the most. The timing of this showing with our most recent national heat wave makes the film very relevant. Climate scientists predict increased strength and frequency of weather events and predict a “world of hurt” if we fail to address the cause – the hurt will not be equally distributed.

SUMMARY:Subu Vedam Case Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Come to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County on June 16 at 11:30 a.m. for a Subu Vedam Community Awareness program. Subramanyam (Subu) Vedam\, a State College man\, was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1982 and sentenced to life without parole\, leading to decades of trauma for him and his family. Documents have recently surfaced showing that Subu could not have committed the crime\, and that prosecutors concealed this evidence from his defense. On Monday July 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte\, a judge will hear arguments as to whether a petition for a new trial can go forward. We are asking those available to attend this important hearing. \nCome on the 16th to get your questions answered and learn the role the community can play to achieve accountability and justice in Centre County.

SUMMARY:Community Event ~ CPAU Presents Documentary Screening: No Way Home
DESCRIPTION:Please note: you can attend this event either in person or virtually. \nJoin CPAU on April 19th at 7:00 pm at University Baptist & Brethren Church for the release of No Way Home\, a documentary depicting a mother’s poignant journey to reunite her family and end mandatory life without parole in Pennsylvania. Witness the story of Lorraine Haw\, affectionately known as Mrs. Dee Dee\, as she navigates the aftermath of gun violence in Philadelphia. From the loss of her brother to a fatal altercation over a gold necklace to her son’s heartbreaking sentence\, Mrs. Dee Dee’s narrative sheds light on the dual impact of gun violence and incarceration. \nWe will also highlight the case of a State College man\, Subramanyam (Subu) Vedam\, who was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1982 and sentenced to life without parole\, leading to decades of trauma for him and his family. Authorities offered no witnesses\, no motive\, no weapon\, or any other direct evidence tying him to the crime. Documents have recently surfaced showing that prosecutors knew Subu could not have committed the crime\, and concealed that evidence from his defense. The effort to ultimately free Subu is ongoing\, and the local community has an important part to play. \nThe night will conclude with a panel discussion. \nSign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/paunited/event/614973/
