SUMMARY:Building a Culture of Inclusion: Workshop with Paula Cole Jones Day 1
DESCRIPTION:This is Day 1 of the Workshop held over Zoom. \nAnyone is welcome to join in a group Zoom in Room 6 at the Fellowship Friday and Saturday for this workshop. \nWe\, Unitarian Universalists\, are called to build the Beloved Community.  To do that\, UUs must attend to the\nunfinished business of dismantling racism and oppression in our congregations and Association and with\nour community partners.  How do we stand in solidarity with the social movements of our times and how do\nthey change us? How do we help to preserve and strengthen a multicultural democracy in this country? \nThis workshop addresses the 8th Principle and multicultural change as a developmental process for\ncongregations.  How have other UU congregations approached the spiritual and structural aspects of\nmoving more fully into our vision of the Beloved Community?  What tools will help you accomplish the\ntasks? \nClick here or go to the Event Series to learn more about the entire Building a Culture of Inclusion workshop and Paula Cole Jones. \nFriday Schedule:\nSession: 6:30 – 8:30 PM (2 hours) \nWorkshop Part 1 \n~ To introduce strategies for working toward long-term cultural change and to elicit the knowledge of\nparticipants about how to engage the congregation.\n~ To share a framework for how collaboration and accountability shape the racial and social justice\nhistory of institutions in the United States.\n~ To engage participants in an interactive experience of the transformative power of the 8th Principle.\n~ To address the relationship between the 8th Principle and the Article II Study Commission’s\nprocess.

SUMMARY:Community Event ~ CPAU Presents Documentary Screening: No Way Home
DESCRIPTION:Please note: you can attend this event either in person or virtually. \nJoin CPAU on April 19th at 7:00 pm at University Baptist & Brethren Church for the release of No Way Home\, a documentary depicting a mother’s poignant journey to reunite her family and end mandatory life without parole in Pennsylvania. Witness the story of Lorraine Haw\, affectionately known as Mrs. Dee Dee\, as she navigates the aftermath of gun violence in Philadelphia. From the loss of her brother to a fatal altercation over a gold necklace to her son’s heartbreaking sentence\, Mrs. Dee Dee’s narrative sheds light on the dual impact of gun violence and incarceration. \nWe will also highlight the case of a State College man\, Subramanyam (Subu) Vedam\, who was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1982 and sentenced to life without parole\, leading to decades of trauma for him and his family. Authorities offered no witnesses\, no motive\, no weapon\, or any other direct evidence tying him to the crime. Documents have recently surfaced showing that prosecutors knew Subu could not have committed the crime\, and concealed that evidence from his defense. The effort to ultimately free Subu is ongoing\, and the local community has an important part to play. \nThe night will conclude with a panel discussion. \nSign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/paunited/event/614973/
