Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a series of comprehensive lifespan sexuality education curricula created through a collaborative project of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and the United Church of Christ (UCC).*
Promoting values of self-worth, sexual health, responsibility, and justice and inclusivity, OWL helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, OWL not only presents facts about anatomy and human development, it also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
UUFCC has a team of trained OWL Facilitators and offer classes every year, rotating between the 7th-9th Grade curriculum and the 10th-12th Grade curriculum. The curricula address issues typically excluded from sexuality & health classes. Due to the nature of the subject matter and group dynamics, OWL classes are closes after the 2nd session. A commitment to attend all sessions is required to participate in any OWL program.
7th-9th Grade OWL: Fall 2016 – Spring 2017
This curriculum is the largest of all OWL curricula. Whereas the other curricula typically consist of 8 to 12 weeks of sessions, the 7th-9th Grade curriculum consists of 25 sessions. As such, this curriculum requires the most investment of time by families. However, we at UUFCC believe this important curriculum will be something that impacts youth for their entire lives.
10th-12th OWL: Fall 2017 – Spring 2018
Modeling and teaching caring, compassion, respect, and justice, this 12-session course is geared toward the older adolescent. The curriculum is designed to ensure they have accurate information about sexuality while also guiding them in making good decisions.

* The curricula are based on the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education produced by the National Guidelines Task Force, a group of leading health, education, and sexuality professionals assembled by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS).
