DESCRIPTION:Our companions in life are death and grief and yet they are so difficult to talk about\, and rarely at that. In times of loss\, how do we find healthy comfort? Further\, is emotional comfort something human beings should even expect as part of life? \nIn the death workshop we will go over practical matters\, memorial services\, and think about our own deaths. The grief workshop includes how to walk with grief\, writing condolence notes\, and digging deep into the grief of being human. The last workshop on comfort helps us understand how we can comfort ourselves naturally as well as realign our expectations of comfort. \nThese three workshops can be taken together or on their own. Each workshop includes videos\, exercises\, information sharing\, and conversation. \n

DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to commit a “Microaggression”? Last October\, we invited Dr. Seria Chatters to give our Board\, Racial Justice Committee\, and RE teachers a workshop on microaggressions which was deeply insightful and spurred much discussion. Rev. Tracy and Ashley Hamlin are expanding this training and discussion to anyone in our UUFCC congregation with a second workshop based on Seria’s material. After this workshop\, we will invite Dr. Chatters to come again and follow up on this work. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a discussion of James McBride’s The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store (2023). Books can be obtained at Barnes & Noble in State College or over Amazon. \nClick here for a list of discussion ideas to think about. \n\nThe discussion will be led by Leslie Brown\, who has this to say about the book and its author: \nSelecting a work of fiction for this venue is out of the ordinary\, but the literary genre can show us much about living as a person of color in past and present America. I have read most of McBride’s novels that feature a variety of settings and historical contexts and have loved them all. The Good Lord Bird\, for which McBride received a National Book Award\, is set in the 1850s in the maelstrom of John Brown’s infamous uprising against the U.S. government. But HEGS stands at the top of my Favorites list\, in part because its historical context resonates with us: 1930s Pottstown\, PA. Two groups of “other” Americans—Blacks and Jews—live\, die\, struggle\, and strive to thrive together within a neglected community that must depend exclusively on its own resilience and resourcefulness. The diversity of characters makes for a lively tail of collaboration to rescue a Black child from the horrors of the notorious mental institution\, Pennhurst. DESCRIPTION:The 3-hour session of UU101 is required of newcomers desiring membership. If space is available\, it is also open to any current members/friends who wish to retrace their spiritual journey to the UUFCC\, to learn about the Fellowship\, and to explore the benefits and responsibilities of membership. \nThe session is concurrent with “Parents’ Night Out\,” so childcare is available\, although you must arrange for this yourself. Supper is provided. \nParticipants have found this rewarding and enlightening. If you are considering becoming a member\, or even if you just want to learn more\, you are welcome. \nInterested? SUMMARY:Reflections on Fascism with Rev Tracy
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. William Ellery Channing\, Minister of the Federal Street Church of Boston\, invited all Massachusetts ministers known to be liberal to meet in the vestry of his church (whose entrance was on Berry Street) on May 30\, 1820. At the meeting Channing delivered a prepared address. He urged upon his colleagues a “bond of union” among liberal Christian ministers\, within which they might meet to exchange practical ideas for strengthening their ministries. Thus the Ministerial Conference at Berry Street was born and continues to this day. This year’s Berry Street address\, My Little Pony Was Right: Reflections of Fascisms Without and Within\, was delivered by Reverend Cecilia Kingman. \nJoin Rev.
