DESCRIPTION:Pianist Seulki Susie Yoo will perform a benefit recital for the Alzheimer’s Foundation at 4 p.m. on Saturday\, April 6\, at UUFCC.  Her program\,”Bringing Light through Music\,” will feature the Opus 10 and Opus 25 Etudes by Frederic Chopin. Seullki recently earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from Penn State\, where she currently accompanies faculty and students.  Seulki was the Gold Prize winner in the 2021 Quebec International Competition and has been a prize winner or finalist in other international competitions. This program is sponsored by the UUFCC Music Committee. We invite you to enjoy a wonderful program and benefit a worthy cause. \nSee flyer. \n\nSeulki Susie Yoo is thrilled to present this Chopin recital at UUFCC to support the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. She aims to raise essential funds for the Alzheimer’s Foundation’s critical efforts in enhancing the lives of those impacted by this challenging disease\, including her own family members. Since graduating from Penn State with a D.M.A. in 2022\, Seulki has been dedicated to promoting Paul Dukas’s piano repertoire at numerous conferences\, and her recording album\, “Paul Dukas Entire Piano Collection\,” will be released later this year. As a winner and finalist of multiple international competitions\, including the Quebec International Competition and the Brahms International Competition\, Seulki has been invited to perform as a soloist and in ensembles at many venues in the U.S. and abroad. She has collaborated with members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra\, the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra\, and the London Symphony Orchestra\, among others. Later this year she will be performing at the Carnegie Weill Hall in New York\, the Gilmore International Piano Festival\, and as a Fellow at the Aspen International Music Festival

DESCRIPTION:Across the United States\, 1 of 3 adults has a criminal record\, and 1 of every 2 children has a parent with a criminal record. Those histories are keeping people – our neighbors – from better jobs\, trades\, educations\, housing\, health care\, volunteering in their communities\, and more. They are keeping families – and whole neighborhoods – in poverty. People change. Records can too! It’s time we stopped letting history hold us back! Across the country\, people are now agreeing: If you paid your debt to society\, you should be allowed to work. \nJoin us for a presentation by Gopal Balachandran\, Associate Professor of Clinical Law at Penn State and current State College Borough Council memeber. Professor Balachandran directs the Externships Program as well as the Criminal Appellate & Post-Conviction Services Clinic at PSU while also maintaining an active presence in international legal education by teaching legal writing to LLM students.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dynamic panel discussion about the housing crisis in Centre County! We will use the 2023 Centre County Housing Needs Assessment and stories from people impacted to frame the problem. Then\, we will draw insights from local leaders who are on the front lines of the issue\, as well as a national perspective from the organization Strong Towns\, on how to best address the crisis. \nPanelists include: \nMatt Herndon\, State College Borough Council member \nMatt will share his considerable knowledge of the innovative ways housing is being addressed nationally. He will also convey his vision for how the State College area could become a place where people of all income levels have access to housing.   \n  \nRobert Zeigler\, Millheim Borough Council Member \nRobert is a community leader and working-class advocate. He is known for his willingness to engage with those who have differing views\, thinking outside the box\, and providing solutions to problems.   \n  \nMorgan Wasikonis\, Executive Director\, Housing Transitions and Home Foundation \nHousing Transitions helps those in a housing crisis with various services in Centre County. The HOME Foundation emphasizes affordable housing\, offering a first-time homebuyer program\, housing counseling\, and income-qualified rental units. Morgan will share her vast knowledge of homelessness and housing insecurity in the area that is often hidden and more widespread than people think.  \n  \nKrista Shawley\, Shelter Director\, CentreSafe \nCentreSafe offers an emergency shelter and other services for people in the area leaving situations of domestic violence or who are survivors of sexual assault. Krista will share her experiences working with and finding housing for some of our most vulnerable residents. \n  \nBlake Harper\, KTFG Real Estate \nBlake has eighteen (18) years of experience in residential rental property ownership and management. He’s an advocate for inclusive communities\, zoning reform\, walkable neighborhoods\, and preventative maintenance. \n  \nModerated by Jenna Henry\, Director\, Central Pennsylvania United \nJenna will share some of her personal experiences living in poverty in addition to guiding the conversation of the panel. She is a lifelong resident of Centre County who now advocates for the issues of poor and working class people.
