He will also convey his vision for how the State College area could become a place where people of all income levels have access to housing.   \n  \nRobert Zeigler\, Millheim Borough Council Member \nRobert is a community leader and working-class advocate. He is known for his willingness to engage with those who have differing views\, thinking outside the box\, and providing solutions to problems.   \n  \nMorgan Wasikonis\, Executive Director\, Housing Transitions and Home Foundation \nHousing Transitions helps those in a housing crisis with various services in Centre County. The HOME Foundation emphasizes affordable housing\, offering a first-time homebuyer program\, housing counseling\, and income-qualified rental units. Morgan will share her vast knowledge of homelessness and housing insecurity in the area that is often hidden and more widespread than people think.  \n  \nKrista Shawley\, Shelter Director\, CentreSafe \nCentreSafe offers an emergency shelter and other services for people in the area leaving situations of domestic violence or who are survivors of sexual assault. Krista will share her experiences working with and finding housing for some of our most vulnerable residents. \n  \nBlake Harper\, KTFG Real Estate \nBlake has eighteen (18) years of experience in residential rental property ownership and management. He’s an advocate for inclusive communities\, zoning reform\, walkable neighborhoods\, and preventative maintenance. \n  \nModerated by Jenna Henry\, Director\, Central Pennsylvania United \nJenna will share some of her personal experiences living in poverty in addition to guiding the conversation of the panel. SUMMARY:Being An Ally to the LGBTQ+ Community
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we will be expand on our first presentation to share concrete and substantive ways of\nbeing an Ally to the LGBTQ+ community. This will be a space where we invite you to come as and where you\nare in your understanding of gender diversity. We hope you’ll bring your questions and a willingness to\nlearn. \n\nPia Smal is an associate teaching professor in Rehabilitation and Human Services and Counselor\nEducation and Supervision at The Pennsylvania State University. She holds a PhD in Counselor Education\,\na master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling\, and a bachelor’s degree in English and Women’s\nStudies. Clinically\, she has worked with a wide variety of individuals in domestic violence\, psychiatric in-\npatient\, and substance use treatment settings. Her research interests include supporting faculty in\naddressing student’s mental health needs\, strength-based approaches to working with clients\,\nand LGBT+ issues in counseling and social justice. She is also the current president and founding member\nof Centre LGBT+\, a local nonprofit focused on bringing the community together through LGBT+\neducation\, advocacy\, and activities in the Centre county region. \nSusan is an Independent College Advising & Admissions Counselor and owner of College Gateways\, LLC.\nPrior to starting her own business\, Susan was employed by the State College Area School District for\nthirty-four years as a High School Counselor and served as Head Counselor in the State High Counseling\nDepartment for many years.\nSusan also serves the Centre County region as a founding Board member and Secretary of the Centre\nLGBT+\, a local nonprofit focused on bringing the community together through LGBT+ education\,\nadvocacy\, and activities.\nSusan is a trained Restorative Practitioner and has been a Restorative Conferencing Facilitator since\n2013. In this role\, she provides training and facilitates conversations aimed at repairing harm and\nrestoring relationships. Susan is a Board member and a volunteer facilitator with the local non-profit\nCentre County Community Conferencing. \nCecil Houseknecht is a State College native and Penn State alum of the Asian Studies program. He is an\nadvocate for marginalized communities through his full-time job as office manager at Penn State's Paul\nRobeson Cultural Center and as a community educator for Centre LGBT+. Cecil's particular focus is on\nthe APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) and LGBT+ community\, and exploring the\nintersectionality of these diverse communities and experiences.

SUMMARY:Multigenerational Sunday Service: "Closer to Free to be LGBT+"
DESCRIPTION:This lay-led service will search for wisdom and inspiration in the 35 year struggle for homosexuality to be considered natural and healthy by the medical establishment.  Starting in 1952\, a short paragraph in the American Psychiatric Association’s influential Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders tragically listed homosexuality as a type of mental disturbance.  Through readings\, poetry and music we examine why this happened and the great injustices it caused; and we celebrate and learn from the inspiring history of how a small number of people overcame powerful biases and entrenched institutional forces to prompt removal of homosexuality from the APA’s official list of mental disorders in 1974.  Though this was a pivotal moment\, it was not until 1987 that the APA’s DSM fully aligned with the modern scientific consensus that homosexuality is a healthy normal variant of human sexuality. \n\nAt 11:30 folks from Centre LGBT+ will present a related workshop on Becoming an Ally.\n\nThis event is part of the UUFCC IMAGINE & DREAM Lantern Festival:\n+ webguide with event schedule at: UUFCC.com/imagine-dream\n + gallery of event flyers at: tinyurl.com/LFestFlyers24
