At a time when voter suppression measures and gerrymandering are more omnipresent than anytime since the Voting Right Act (VRA) first passed in 1965, the U.S. Supreme Court has significantly weakened that act. In this presentation/discussion, we cover give a quick history of the VRA, how it affects Pennsylvania, how and why voter suppression in the name of fighting “voter fraud” has come back, why voter ID laws and citizenship tests are vote suppression, why we need a new VRA, why the Supreme Court must be tamed, and why our elected representatives must be asked to help us do it.
