Community Event – A Call for Humane Conditions At Centre County Jail
Centre County Correction Facility 700 Rishel Hill Rd, Bellefonte, PA, United StatesToday, Centre County’s incarcerated citizens cannot see the sky, experience sunlight, encounter nature, or witness the changing seasons unless they are on work release. Join a coalition of individuals and community groups who have been working on this issue for over two years. Location: Centre County Correction Facility - Community Room, 700 Rishel Hill Road (just off the I-99 Bellefonte exit)

Dr. Brian King is Professor and Head of the Department of Geography at Penn State. His research, teaching, and outreach focus on livelihoods, conservation and development, environmental change, and human health. He holds affiliations across the university, including with the Population Research Institute, the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute, the School of International Affairs, and the Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse. Community Event – Foxdale Multicultural Film Festival: Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Foxdale Auditorium 500 E Marylyn Ave, State College, United StatesSet in 1920s Oklahoma, this film tells the true story of a corrupt political boss who orchestrates the murders of oil-rich Osage Nation members, manipulating his nephew into betraying his Osage wife until the Bureau of Investigation uncovers the conspiracy. It is a haunting tale of greed, betrayal, and injustice. (3 hrs. 26 min., R) This film will be shown in two parts: Part One on Thursday, October 2, and Part Two on Friday, October 3. Community Arts Center 220 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA, United StatesWe are excited to be joining forces with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra to open the 77th season of the State College Choral Society with the perennial favorite, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Inspired by a collection of Medieval poetry from southern Germany, Orff composed the music in 1935 in a style purposefully much simpler and more tonal than his contemporaries Schoenberg and Stravinsky. The poetry’s focus on the fickleness of luck, life in the tavern, and the thrill of springtime and love, are as relevant today as when they were written nearly one thousand years ago.
