    We are excited to be joining forces with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra to open the 77th season of the State College Choral Society with the perennial favorite, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Inspired by a collection of Medieval poetry from southern Germany, Orff composed the music in 1935 in a style purposefully much simpler and more tonal than his contemporaries Schoenberg and Stravinsky.  The poetry’s focus on the fickleness of luck, life in the tavern, and the thrill of springtime and love, are as relevant today as when they were written nearly one thousand years ago.  The iconic music of Carmina Burana [...]

  • Community Event – “Christmas Gloria!”

    Our annual free Christmas with the Choral Society concert will feature one of the masterpieces of the season, John Rutter's Gloria. In three movements, the outer fast movements have the energetic exuberance of a John Williams movie score, while the slow inner movement evokes the wonder and mystery of a star-filled night. This concert will feature performances by local school choirs, as well as an audience sing-along of familiar seasonal favorites.     This is a non-UUFCC event, in which several UUFCC members will be performing! Featuring: Laura Choi Stewart, soprano Jacob Wilde, tenor Timothy LeFebvre, baritone State High Master Singers Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra Join us for this dramatic oratorio as we conclude our 75th Diamond Anniversary season.
