Thank you for an engaging last session as we shared how love has shown up for us and in our communities. During our next session, on Sunday, Feb 23 at 11:30, we will focus on love as a spiritual practice. We will learn about spiritual practices, make a commitment to start or restore a practice that will accompany our Wellspring journey.
The following resource offers us an opportunity to consider various ways to practice our faith and form a daily spiritual practice to support our journey together in this program. This resource is from the required book list and you may have begun reading it already. For this session please revisit the sections listed below.
- Faithful Practices: Everyday Ways to Feed Your Spirit edited by Erik Walker Wikstrom. Read the Introduction and Chapter titled: “The Greatest of These is Love.” Please feel free to continue reading other chapters that interest you.
In the sermon offered below by UUA President, Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt and the brief video by renowned poet Maya Angelou, we learn how love liberates us. And we learn how loving our bodies and all other glorious bodies out there is an act of resistance.
- “A Love that Frees” Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt, UUA. (8 min)
- “Love Liberates” Dr. Maya Angelou. OWN network. 2015. Note the video starts with a gray screen.
We will consider these two questions:
- How do you practice deep love for yourself? What makes this easy or challenging?
- How can expanding love for ourselves translate to an act of resistance?
We will also be sharing stories of our own spiritual practices.
