In June of 2021, Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday. Juneteenth Weekend is founded by the State College NAACP in partnership with the Borough of State College, the Center for the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State, and The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau. Come to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County on June 16 at 11:30 a.m. for a Subu Vedam Community Awareness program. Subramanyam (Subu) Vedam, a State College man, was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1982 and sentenced to life without parole, leading to decades of trauma for him and his family. Documents have recently surfaced showing that Subu could not have committed the crime, and that prosecutors concealed this evidence from his defense. The film is being co-sponsored by the Climate Justice Group of State College Friends Meeting, and Foxdale’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion and Climate Care Committees.
