Join us for an evening of: Food from Webster's; Poetry Reading by Michel Lee Garrett (a queer and transgender author and poet); Rainbow Rock Painting; Films for all ages (Younger Kids: Lightyear, Teens: Love Simon, Adults: The Danish Girl).
In the spirit of the death-and darkness-themed holidays of the early Fall season, all ages are invited to join in a light-hearted dissection and exploration of our human fears, phobias and anxieties, so that we are all better situated to keep the monsters in their place. Join us in teaming up with Interfaith Power and Light to watch this insightful film followed by a conversation with the director (who will join via Zoom). The film explores our economic, historical and emotional entanglement with oil by looking at the conflicting imperatives around North Sea oil and considers how this machine can be tamed, dismantled, or repurposed.
Please sign-up to share your chili recipes and to help us make this year the best Chili Cookoff Year EVER!! Please bring your Crockpots full of delicious Meat or Vegetarian Chili to be plugged in and ready to feed lots of hungry UUs after the service and before the Midyear Meeting on November 5th. Please also sign up to help with set up and clean up, and to bring sides. The Chili Winners will be announced at the Mid-Year Meeting, and there will be prizes for the Best Vegetarian and the Best Meat Chilis.

Breakout Session for State College: Native Plantings: The What, Why, and How to Help Counter Climate Change (2pm-3pm) Humans have introduced many plants from different locations in the world, accidentally or purposefully, with some alarming results. All are welcome to gather for a silent vigil for peace in Israel and Gaza. Join us as we express our communal longing for an end to violence everywhere. Candles or other lights are welcome. The 3-hour session of UU101 is required of newcomers desiring membership. If space is available, it is also open to any current members/friends who wish to retrace their spiritual journey to the UUFCC, to learn about the Fellowship, and to explore the benefits and responsibilities of membership.
On Sunday November 12 at 2:00 pm, Congregation Brit Shalom will be holding a memorial service/panel discussion to commemorate the 85th year since Kristallnacht and the 5th year since the Tree of Life tragedy. The panel discussion will focus on the current state of antisemitism in the United States. Rabbi David Ostrich will speak about the challenges facing congregations in the face of anti-Semitic sentiment. Rabbi Rob Gleisser will address antisemitism on college campuses; and Emma Baer-Simon will discuss antisemitism on social media.

On Saturday, November 18, 10am-2:30pm, UUFCC will host Breaking Barriers, Building Beliefs (B4) offered by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) for congregations searching for a new minister. The B4 workshop is another opportunity for everyone in our congregation to participate in our search. This will be an interactive workshop with childcare, snacks and lunch provided. Come to the UU Thanksgiving! Celebrate our Fellowship and join in community for a Potluck Thanksgiving. Sign up to join the potluck. Once the potluck is over, fill your containers with leftovers to take home and stay to help clean-up. Questions call Linda Eller 814-883-0392.
Meet at UUFCC to then caravan to a tree farm to pick out a tree for our Fellowship (and for your family!). Then we'll light it and decorate it in the sanctuary! We come together to celebrate and honor the wheel of the year, the turning of the earth and thus the changing of the seasons. It is a service in which we honor and celebrate our deep connection to the earth and all her living creatures. This service will be outside next to the fire pit. Dress warmly. The Stonebridge Winds will perform at UUFCC at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, as part of the UUFCC Music Series. This woodwind quintet was formed recently by bassoonist Daryl Durran. The other members are Ashley Shank, flute; Graham Mackenzie, oboe; Anthony Poehailos, clarinet, and Christi Smith, horn. Their program will include a variety of interesting music. Members and friends are invited to join a screening and discussion of this award-winning documentary which examines a pivotal success of the gay rights movement that took place in 1973. This will be a potluck supper -- they will bring food, as well as any of you who would like to join us. To better involve the children, there will be a Valentine Tree set up in the UU Foyer with a heart for each child, with the child''s name, age, and gift suggestion under $20. The Centre County Interfaith Coalition for Gun Safety is an alliance of local religious leaders and community members committed to building a peaceful society free from preventable gun violence. Through our work, we educate on issues related to gun violence, advocate for responsible and safe gun ownership, and unite with local, state, and federal officials on matters of gun safety that benefit the whole community.
