Community Event – “Christmas Gloria!”

State College Area High School Performance Hall 650 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA, United States

Our annual free Christmas with the Choral Society concert will feature one of the masterpieces of the season, John Rutter's Gloria. In three movements, the outer fast movements have the energetic exuberance of a John Williams movie score, while the slow inner movement evokes the wonder and mystery of a star-filled night. This concert will feature performances by local school choirs, as well as an audience sing-along of familiar seasonal favorites. Community Event – “Tipping Points and the Big Picture on Climate and Energy”

Dr. Richard Alley, an Evan Pugh University Professor in the Department of Geosciences and leader of the Penn State Ice and Climate Research Center, will present a talk on Tuesday, January 14 at 7 pm at Foxdale. The well-documented risk of climate change is the potential of crossing thresholds called tipping points, which could trigger rapid, irreversible changes. Dr. Alley will describe potential tipping points and discuss the benefits of transitioning to a sustainable energy system in avoiding these thresholds. This lecture is open to the public.

Community Event: State College Choral Society Performance – “Romance Is In the Air”

In February, we will present Brahms’ timeless masterpiece the Liebeslieder Waltzes. A collection of sixteen short songs in ¾ time, this is Brahms at his most charming and tuneful, bounding from flirtation to dejection, rage to contentment. The second half of the concert contains a bouquet of favorite love songs from the English and American traditions, including a stunning arrangement of Somewhere from "West Side Story". Community Event: Osage Hearts Scholarship – Chili and Cake Fundraiser

The Osaze Hearts scholarship helps underrepresented students at State High (who volunteer in the community) attend college.
