Dr. Jason Whitney will be presenting on Opioids, Addiction and Recovery. His session will examine the opioid overdose epidemic as part of a larger substance use disorder epidemic. He will describe the current status of opioid addiction, review the status of addiction as a chronic disease, and discuss various systems of treatment and recovery pathways. Further, is emotional comfort something human beings should even expect as part of life? In the death workshop we will go over practical matters, memorial services, and think about our own deaths. What does it mean to commit a "Microaggression"? Last October, we invited Dr. Seria Chatters to give our Board, Racial Justice Committee, and RE teachers a workshop on microaggressions which was deeply insightful and spurred much discussion. Rev. Tracy and Ashley Hamlin are expanding this training and discussion to anyone in our UUFCC congregation with a second workshop based on Seria's material. In this workshop we will be expand on our first presentation to share concrete and substantive ways of being an Ally to the LGBTQ+ community. This will be a space where we invite you to come as and where you are in your understanding of gender diversity. We hope you’ll bring your questions and a willingness to learn.
