    This film is a powerful documentary that traces the journey of a migrant whose body is found in the Arizona desert, prompting an investigation into his identity and the broader human cost of immigration. Starring Gael García Bernal, the film combines forensics and reenactments to reveal migrant hardships. (1 hr. 54 min., R) The Multicultural Film Festival is free and open to the public.

    Set in 1920s Oklahoma, this film tells the true story of a corrupt political boss who orchestrates the murders of oil-rich Osage Nation members, manipulating his nephew into betraying his Osage wife until the Bureau of Investigation uncovers the conspiracy. It is a haunting tale of greed, betrayal, and injustice. (3 hrs. 26 min., R) This film will be shown in two parts: Part One on Thursday, October 2, and Part Two on Friday, October 3. The Multicultural Film Festival is free and open to the public.

His research, teaching, and outreach focus on livelihoods, conservation and development, environmental change, and human health. He holds affiliations across the university, including with the Population Research Institute, the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute, the School of International Affairs, and the Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse.   • Community Event – “Tipping Points and the Big Picture on Climate and Energy”

    Dr. Richard Alley, an Evan Pugh University Professor in the Department of Geosciences and leader of the Penn State Ice and Climate Research Center, will present a talk on Tuesday, January 14 at 7 pm at Foxdale. The well-documented risk of climate change is the potential of crossing thresholds called tipping points, which could trigger rapid, irreversible changes. Dr. Alley will describe potential tipping points and discuss the benefits of transitioning to a sustainable energy system in avoiding these thresholds. This lecture is open to the public.

    Public presentation on September 24 at 7 p.m. in the Foxdale Auditorium. The speaker is Dr. Raymond Najjar Professor of Oceanography in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science, with a joint appointment in the Department of Geosciences. Come to learn the fundamentals of Earth’s changing climate, including the evidence for warming, the contributions of humans, the impacts on society and the natural world, and how our actions now will determine the severity of the threat for future generations. This event is open to the public.

  • Community Event – “Cooked, Survival by Zip Code”

    Cooked, Survival by Zip Code was produced by an award winning filmmaker named Judith Hefand.  It will be shown July 11th, 7pm in the Foxdale Auditorium. The film is being co-sponsored by the Climate Justice Group of State College Friends Meeting, and Foxdale’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion and Climate Care Committees.  State College community attendance is welcomed. Cooked, Survival by Zip Code documents various weather disasters but focuses on the 1995 Chicago heat disaster that killed 739 people.     The Foxdale Climate Care Committee presents this event. Come learn about the fundamentals of Earth's changing climate, including the evidence for warming, the contributions of humans, the impacts on ecosystems and society, and how our actions now will determine the severity of the threat to our future generations. Dr. Najjar is Professor of Oceanography in the PSU Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science with a joint appointment in the Department of Geosciences. This is a Community Event, so come early to get a seat. This will be facilitated by Martha Butler, G-111.
