For this event, Cathy will be joined by several friends and family members. They are Cecilia Blackwell, flute, Brent Register, guitar; Gabriel Herrera, trombone; Jacob Herrera, trumpet and ukelele, and Jim Latten, percussion. Cathy will be playing five different flutes during this program, which will include Baroque music featuring traverso flute and music by the Argentinian composer Astor Pizzolla and the Brazilian composer Pixinguinha. In addition, she will premiere some of her original works and compositions by Brent Register that highlight the alto flute and piccolo. The Native American pocket flute will be featured in some free improvisation.
Cathy holds a Doctorate in Flute Performance and a Certificate in World Music. As a Fulbright scholar in Peru, she was a founder of the Latin American Flute Festival scene. She is also the founder of the Flutopia Initiative charitable organization, for which she organizes benefit concerts for charities locally and in the host city of each National Flute Association convention. She is a Rostered Artist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Flute Lecturer at Juniata College, and a member of the Nittany Valley, Altoona, and Penn’s Woods Symphony orchestras.
