Community Event – Juneteenth Celebration Weekend, State College

Get ready for Juneteenth Weekend 2024! Juneteenth is a celebration to commemorate the day federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to ensure the freedom of all enslaved people. In June of 2021, Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday. Juneteenth Weekend is founded by the State College NAACP in partnership with the Borough of State College, the Center for the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State, and The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau. David is wonderful with children and has written many songs with children which he will share in the service. All children are invited into the service! No sign-in required.

Subu Vedam Case Information Session

Come to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County on June 16 at 11:30 a.m. for a Subu Vedam Community Awareness program. Subramanyam (Subu) Vedam, a State College man, was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1982 and sentenced to life without parole, leading to decades of trauma for him and his family. Documents have recently surfaced showing that Subu could not have committed the crime, and that prosecutors concealed this evidence from his defense. General Assembly is coming up June 20-23. General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).
